SHAKY KANE - CAVERN ARTWORK
In case you ever wondered who painted the pictures that have adorned the cavern bar for about 15 years - its an Exeter Artist called SHAKY KANE. After working for independent comics and magazines like Deadline in the 1980s, Shaky moved to the mainstream with work on 2000 AD and its sister title, the Judge Dredd Megazine in the 1990s. He painted the Cavern pictures under the pseudonym SHAKY 2000 and also drew sleeve artwork for Exeter punk bands Annalise and The Cut Ups. I cant find any picture of the reclusive artist - but here's his alter ego THE PROWLER and a photo of TRIPP from US punk band THE UNSEEN holding up a couple of comice we did in 2000.
Earlier this month, Image Comics published Shaky's new comic The Bulletproof Coffin which he created with writer David Hine, and was met with much with acclaim, becoming an instant sell out. With the second issue on the way from the pair, you can catch up on issue 1 for FREE here http://bit.ly/aUGR8B
There's an Exhibition of Shaky's earlier artwork at Orbital Comics in London (near Covent Garden.)
